Laws regarding documentation vary from state to state, so it’s important to consult with your local DMV website to ensure that all your bases are covered—but we have unique requirements at each phase of the process. First, during the offer phase, you’ll need to provide your vehicles Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). This VIN provides us with critical details about your car and its history, ensuring we can get you the best possible offer. By entering the VIN at the beginning of the process, we can fast-track your submission for a quicker offer. In some cases, we will require a signed scan or photocopy of your vehicle’s title once we’ve reached an agreement on your offer—which will only be used to verify details about the vehicle’s owner. Additionally, we’ll need a scan or photocopy of the owner’s driver’s license in order to verify a match between the name and signature found on the title and the driver’s license. You’re welcome to cross out your date of birth and driver’s license number in the interest of privacy. This in no way constitutes transfer of ownership for the vehicle. For older vehicles, a member of our network title and ownership when they arrive to pick up your vehicle and prior to title transfer. In every case, we will require a signed original title for your car when we arrive to tow it away and get you paid. If you don’t have that title, we CANNOT purchase the car.
